Despite being named after a dog, Gunny’s is not a dog-friendly bar indoors. Service animals are, of course, welcome. If we add any dog-friendly outdoor seating down the line, we’ll make a very VERY big deal about it.

We don’t do reservations, but keep a guestlist! While you wait you’re able to grab a drink and a bite at our front bar. We’ll always keep some space available for walk-ins.
-
Absolutely. We’re an all-day neighborhood pub with a full lunch menu, coffee, and a plant-filled back room under a 20-by-20-foot skylight that was basically made for answering emails with something good to eat.
We also believe in the three-martini lunch. We believe equally strongly in having an extensive no- and low-ABV menu for people who would like to remain productive afterward.
-
Yep. The menu shifts throughout the day between lunch, dinner, brunch, midday and late night, but there will always be something to eat.
Whether you’re looking for a full dinner, a smash burger at the bar, a few bites with a cocktail, or something late at night, Chef has you covered. And, fortunately for all of us, he does a damn good job.
-
Very much so.
Our cocktail program is built around classics done right, with properly made martinis, Manhattans, Daiquiris, Gimlets and other familiar favorites alongside a rotating selection of original cocktails.
We also have beer, wine, affordable neighborhood-priced pours, and a thoughtful selection of no- and low-ABV cocktails. You should be able to come to Gunny’s for a great cocktail without feeling like you accidentally wandered into a luxury goods showroom.

Gunny’s is a Midwestern-inspired neighborhood restaurant and pub with a bit of a hunter-gatherer streak.
Our menu starts with familiar bar food and takes it somewhere a little more interesting, pulling from Midwestern ingredients, supper club traditions, seasonal produce and regional game. Depending on the menu, that might mean duck confit poutine with Wisconsin cheese curds, roasted duck breast, prime bavette steak, broiled whitefish, Italian beef, caviar with ranch-flavored chips, or a very straightforward $10 smash burger.
There are also plenty of vegetables, salads and lighter dishes in the mix, including seasonal preparations like our Market Days salad with bitter greens, Prairie Breeze cheddar and local apples.
Basically, Midwestern food with good technique, a sense of humor and no interest in making dinner feel like homework.

Not incredibly. Thoughtful? Absolutely. Fussy? Never.
Gunny’s sits somewhere around the low end of fine dining and the high end of your favorite neighborhood pub. The food can get ambitious and the cocktails are taken seriously, but the room is meant to feel comfortable.
It works for a date night, dinner with your in-laws, a birthday, a Tuesday martini, or simply deciding you deserve something a little nicer tonight.
Think fine-dining technique without fine-dining behavior. -
Not while Lincoln Avenue is being excavated into what appears to be a small archaeological site.
For now, all seating is indoors. Check back with us in 2027 to see if we have both a patio and a street.
-
Not normally. Our rear dining room is part of the everyday Gunny’s experience and sits beneath our 20-by-20-foot skylight.
Once we’re a little further along, we’ll offer private and semi-private events for birthdays, cocktail parties, celebrations, company gatherings and other occasions. We’re intentionally starting slowly so we can get regular service right before we start throwing everybody’s birthday parties.
-
Yes, especially during the daytime and earlier evening hours.
Gunny’s definitely leans more toward neighborhood restaurant, date-night spot and cocktail bar than family restaurant, but families are welcome. We’ll have high chairs and a small kids’ menu with extremely controversial culinary choices like buttered noodles.
After 9 PM, Gunny’s is 21+. -
Do you have TVs?
We have one, and it has a very important job: Jeopardy! We’re not trying to be another sports bar, especially with two great ones basically next door. Gunny’s is more of a gathering place, date-night spot, and “one more round because we’re having a good time” kind of place.
